Hey there. I've just recently collecting and becoming interested in customizing some figures. I've got a bunch of those Mattel Batman figures based on TNBA sold at discount stores (such as Family Dollar and Dollar General) that I would like to paint or remove paint from. I've found alot of information on here but its kind of overwhelming. I have a few basic questions to ask but if anyone has more information that I haven't thought about yet, I'd really appreciate it.
1. What are some good products for removing paint without damaging the plastic?
2. Does anyone have recommendations on what kinds of paints and brushes I should use?
3. What kind of tape should I use to cover areas that I don't want to change? Utility belt, chest emblem, etc.
3. Any other items to recommend for removing or changing the shape of the figures?
Some of the things I want to do as far as customizing these figures are: paint my Batgirl and Robin to the original colors instead of silver and blue, paint the Penguin like my old SuperPowers figure, and take the painted scars off of Battle-scar Batman.
I already damaged one Batman while trying to remove those painted scars by using my girlfriend's non-acetone fingernail polish remover and q-tips. It was a slow process but did a passable job. I think it ruined some of the plastic and left some scratches so I used her emery board nail buffer/polisher to smooth it out. It also helped removed the light outlines of the scars that I could still see. He still has some scratches, but no worse than what a kid would do by playing with him. Mainly I had trouble getting the paint out of some of the crevices in his chest, and then when I used the buffer I scratched his chest emblem. Thanks for any advice.
