WELCOME TO The CUSTOM BATMAN FIGURES “WORLDWIDE CUSTOM PROJECT”
The CBF Worldwide Custom Project is held twice a year- with final entries displayed once in the Winter and once in the Summer.
For the Winter Edition a single character from the world of Batman is selected (via vote) by the membership. Each entrant will design and create his own unique action figure or related piece, based on the chosen character. This may include adaptations of the character as seen in the comics, movies or television or it may include original designs.
The Summer Edition differs from the Winter event . Rather than being based on a selected character it will encourage entrants to develop a Project based on a broad theme focused on the world of Batman. This allows for more liberal interpretations. The challenge of the Summer Edition is to illustrate what the theme means to the artist in terms of his personal vision or favored version of the Batman universe.
The Worldwide Custom Project was developed based on an inspired idea from CBF member Scot "Scooter" Fleming. It is designed to be a showcase of the talents and vision of the membership here that currently includes and openly invites artists from nations across the globe. It was conceived as a fun challenge - a means to unify the variety of talent while still promoting the individual artistry and skills that are the cornerstones of the work regularly displayed here.
NOTE: This is not a contest- there are no judges and no prizes. Because each member has developed their own visual sense, a distinctive set of skills, a chosen focus, and a personal philosophy in their work any “ranking” of the results would be pointless and unnecessary. The goal of this event is to explore how a single idea, within a shared interest, can be developed by each- and celebrate the resulting diversity.
TO OUR MEMBERS…
Please review the following guidelines for the Project entries. These guidelines were developed to support the “variation on a theme” results desired by the event as well as to provide structure
1 - Any version or interpretation is acceptable. You may also include henchman or related companions, or any other images associated with the character- environments, vehicles, weapons, accessories, etc. along with the chosen character.
2 - Any style or scale or format is acceptable as long as it is an original creation.
3 – The final result has to be a new effort made for this collaboration- please do not select a figure you have previously completed.
4 – It is acceptable if one member wants to team-up with another .
5 – To maintain some sense of drama and fun on “opening day” of the project please be discreet in discussing specifics in advance and do not post pictures of any works in progress.
6- Final entries to be completed to meet established due date.
POSTING Instructions-
For each Season’s Edition of the Project TWO threads will be added. to post on. They are as follows-
1) The First thread will have the Title & Year, Season, and subject of the entries- example: “2006- Winter Edition-MR FREEZE!” In this thread please post the pictures of your Project entry. There are no guidelines regarding pictures as long as their sole purpose is to showcase your work for this project. Some introductory text included with the pictures would enhance the entry- a description of the subject you chose, discussion of the approach you took, some insight into your methods, and any other thoughts you deem appropriate to introduce your work are all acceptable.
ONLY pictures of the entries and introductions will be posted in this thread and no sooner than the official start day of the event. In this way, it will create a gallery of the Project results from each contributor that can be scrolled down through without any undo interruptions from added comments or discussions. SEE THE FOLLOWING:
2) The Second Thread will be provided for comments and discussions about the Projects presented. The title will relate directly to a specific Seasonal Project, for example: “2006-Winter Edition-MR FREEZE Comments”. Here comments for all of the projects on exhibit will be added allowing you to discuss single works, several pieces, or the entire Project as a whole.
These bi-anual events are open to all members of CBF who would like to join in on the fun & excitement.
