I just got the newer "The Batman" 6 inch figure. My question is this... When you guys get one of these new off the store shelves, do you automatically go into a revamp mode and repaint them or re-accurize them, or do you pretty much keep them as they are in the package? I mean on any you actually open.
You get what I am asking? I sit and look at many of my storebought figures and only when some minor thing bugs me enough will I repaint or rework a standard figure as 6" or whatever is not my redo avenue so much.
This new Batman has a dim yellow circle on his emblem and it bugs me, so I will probably repaint that, but I am not compelled to repaint the otherwise clean figure.
You fellas though, Cason, FB, Glorbes, all of you guys, etc., do you repaint the entire figure from top to bottom? redo capes? Whatever? Everytime out?
Just basically curious. It just hit me looking at this new figure that I wondered how you guys see the same figures when they are new.

Well, speaking for myself, I either open and display my figs (of any scale) or leave them MOC (usually no real method goes into determining which, mostly just whims). But if it's opend/displayed, it remains all original. Just the way I am. If I want to customize or alter or "correct" something bad enough, I'll get another one somehow in order to do it. I simply cant bring myself to mess (for better or worse) with an actual/original piece, or my only one.

I USED to fix all of them to my tastes.
Not anymoe. This may sound Bizzarro but I've got to really like the figure to bother messing with it. If I don't like the figure much - I leave it alone. if I really like it - I often fix the things that bug me about it.
But not always. My favorite Batgirl figure is the DCD original black one and I love it except the gloves are little tiny flared ones sort of like they were going for the old BTAS style. She never wore these in the comics and it has bugged me but I never fixed it.

I open everything. It's a visceral thrill. Whether I fix something or not is determined by a) how important the character is to me, b) how much the problem bugs me, and c) how lazy I'm feeling. There are lots of things I can think of that I'd like to see fixed, but if I spent all my time chasing fixes, I'd never make any new figures. When I do fix something, I try to localized the fix to a small area, so I won't have to repaint the whole figure. Sometimes, it can't be helped. C.

I agree pretty much with Cas,i try to leave them alone but occasionally one fig may need some sort of touch-up so i only attack the area that needs attention mostly. This happens rarely as i prefer to work with my own stuff rather than fix the store bought. It's only if it really bugs me that i do this.Like the Alex Ross Batman from the DCD Justice line.A figure i have always wanted but he's got the whole Marty Feldman thing going on with his Eyes so they'll have to be re-done but that's all i'll do to him.
I'm a much more selective collector than i used to be so i only get what i really really want which makes it easier.I open about 80% of what i get, there's just the odd bits and pieces i like to keep in package.Which was another change as a few years ago i wouldn't open anything then i finally realised"What's the fun in that?" Truth be told i spend more time these days looking for Fodder to make my own figures.

Funny...with the exception the Mezco Hellboy line, pretty much every figure I've bought over the past year is because it would make good fodder for customizing. I'll even (on occasion) by a figure if it a) has nice hand sculpts, b) has cool accessories or c) has pouches, buckles, and minor details that could be harvested for other purposes. So, I guess to answer your question, I customize pretty much from head to toe.

Just to clarify, Glorbes, I think we all buy figures for use as fodder. I keep a large supply of fodder, myself. But I think Les meant those figures we buy with the intent of keeping "as is." (Maybe you don't buy such things, in which case I bow to your strength of will. ) Heck, I'd wager that if the manufacturers and retailers actually gave us what we want, most of wouldn't "customize" as we know it. (We'd be legitimate sculptors and painters!) C.

I know what you mean Cas,if i added all my Fodder figures[or what's left of them]to my display collection i reckon my actual collection would double in size.Scary stuff huh?
