FYI, here is the new Hot Toys Supes figure with my Reeve for comparison. Not a bad investment. I am not nearly as excited by all this Superman Returns stuff now after the fact and all, BUT, this is a very nice figure (the box is amazing!) and I was lucky to get one cheap early on. Now, they are waaaay out of my price range. Good luck on one if you are after one. Good to have for completists and fans of the new movie. Very nice suit too. Amazing cape material. Really nice. Figure's a bit short when compared to other 12" figures. Not very SUPER when seen next to a standard guy. That leaves a alot to be desired. At least they could have made him taller. And, he's too lean. That DCD figure out now, that I have seen is WAY to far the other way...too big, and this is almost too small. Though better than a Medicom one would probably be, he could be just a smidgen taller. Maybe a Sideshow body shiftover??? Or not. The suit won't move to another body I bet. Anyway, I will probably repaint the head soon. I'll repost pics if/when I ever get to it. Til then, Enjoy.

Thanks for the lowdown of a figure I probably will never be able to buy. Does look pretty decent and so I'm glad you got one at a good price. HOWEVER!!! No comparison to the one of Christopher Reeve you made mate! Superboy alongside the 'real' Superman in my opinion. Never fail to be excited seeing that guy! Top stuff.

A-HA! Since you posted a pic of your Reeve Superman, I can FINALLY rave about how awesome it is!! Not to take away from the HT figure, which does look nice, and I'm in agreement with all the points you've made. You know, it seems that most HT figures run a little small compared to the other manufacturers.... I, too, am very curious to see what you'll do with a repaint; no doubt it'll be a vast improvement. NOW: back to your Reeve custom!!! Frikkin' fantastic awesome perfect Reeve. Hands. DOWN. And you know, he has the perfect body for a Superman figure. Looks pretty powerful. When I was browsing through the boards after first joining, THIS was one of the main figures that made my jaw drop in awe. Okay, I got that outta my system! Now hit me up with some more 12" custom figure goodness!

Nice shots. It really just shows how much better yours is than theirs though. I am not a big fan of this Superman but just commenting on the crazy laws of supply and demand that seem to have taken a right turn here - I agree the DCD one sucks and this one has problems too. But the Barbie/Ken costume is really not that bad. and for the price difference - I'll pop one on a Dragon doll and grab one of those Routh head recasts and have a $40 version that really doesn't look $200 less than the Hot Toys one! (Which is kind of what Tim Meyer just did with a bit of a twist and I'll show pictures later)

It is jarring when you see them side by side and they are both supposed to be the exact same guy! How does that old Sesame Street song go? "....One of these things is not like the other...one of these things just doesn't belong..." ;D

100% improvement mate! Still not as good as Christopher in my opinion but that is no fault of your own as the paint job is incredible. To me maybe I just don't think the guy has the look for Superman. What you have done to the figure though is ace and it is a pretty cool looking guy in the first place in action figure terms. You are a fast fellas too. Nice work. You set the bar so high with that Christopher Reeve figure that you have left yourself little room in Kryptonian terms. I guess you are your own competition because nobody else can touch you mate.

Just my 2 cents - I don't think it's fair to compare/pose that Routh next to the Reeves Supes. The Reeves Supes is done on that BIG Mego 13" body, not a true 1:6 12" one and is "super" out of the gate by being so big. I don't think that HT Routh is too thin. He seems that thin in all the shots I've seen of him.
Maybe if you posed the DCD Superman returns next to it it would be more 'apples to apples' (Isn't the new DCD on a 13" body as well?)
Regardless - fantastic repaint as always. Those EYES! That's why you will never need my decal eyes. LOL!

man the repaint makes an insane difference! nice work as always Les. Aside form just looking way better, it also helps w/ the likeness.
Of all of the versions or Routh Superman out there now, I have yet to see one that really captures his likeness well. The Mattel stuf is all horrible! This one may be the best to date as long as it has a Les paintjob . . . havent seen a good enough pic of the medicom one yet (speakiing of, anyone see the Medicom Routh Clark Kent? looks cool!)
The only one I've seen that I think actually looks "right" is the one Steven sculpted and posted here a while back.

Gotta say I'm with the rest of the guys in saying this is a 100% improvement on the figure's original paint up. OUTSTANDING work on that face, Les; it bumps the figure up to a whole new level!!

Sorry to be coming in so late on this. First of all, the figure seems really nice from the start to me and a vast improvement over the junk on the shelves at Toys R Us. Second of all, it is now completely alive with your paint work- as to be expected. Third of all- I actually got a big kick out of seeing it posed with your Chris Reeve figure if only to see the ascension. I hope any future Superman work you may ever do that you continue to give us a "group" shot. Hey- do the boots on the Routh figure have all of that ribbing, and shields, and crap like they do in the movie? Hard to see from here...
