So, I'm rather new to the whole customising thing, and I was lucky enough to get a rather large bag of animated batman figures from a friend (who I've also introduced to the rather splendid world of customising and has repainted a lot of his animated figures and his first custom) and now I have a number of Batman figures for the spares box. I dislike fabric capes on a small scale and I'm interested in trying my hand at using vinyl.
Therein lies my problem, where would I get this stuff? What does it look like? Who sells it?
We asked in a fabric shop with no luck, they only had this faux leather type stuff. Cheers! Chris

Hiya Homunculus! Welcome! Making custom capes for animated figs from scratch from vinyl can be tough. But it comes in handy for so many uses in customizing its great to have a stash around. I get it at Walmart, but most fabric stores should carry it. Go to the fabrics section at Walmart and ask for sheet vinyl. It is clear and comes in varying thicknesses. Its usually stored on the big hanging rolls and is super cheap! For next to nothing you can get a variety and enough to last a long time for custom needs. Hope I helped a little and cant wait to see what you have to show us!

Well i'm in OZ Chris and of course Walmart isn't an option for me either. It took me a while[months actually] to find it here but eventually i found it at a huge Chain Store called Spotlight that carries all sorts of Fabrics for Clothing to Curtains etc, etc. So try the larger ones,it's well worth it. I've also heard of Customisers using Vinyl from those cheapo Roller Blinds you can get at Variety Stores like Kmart and Target too, even Glorbes has used it i think.Might be worth a look if the other doesn't pan out for you.

You know, I hadnt actually thought of using anything but vinyl-off-the-roll... But now I have a few really good ideas for the next time I go to source some materials.. I'm thinking shower curtains perhaps, what do you guys think? Cheers, Chris

For me personally i think shower curtain material might have dramas getting paint to adhere to it.Just a thought, good idea and good luck though.
