An experiment... I’ve hated the neck line on the Dragon figures when a “boat neck” or open neck shirt is on them like Superman or Doc Savage for example. So I took a look at the Cy girls and the Doc Ock 12 figure I happened on in the Good Will... and saw the ball joint action that lends a more natural look without giving up articulation to the head. So I took the Dragon body neck stump and broke it off and sculpted a neck on that allowed the addition of the Trapezius (and to some extent the Stylohyoid) muscle that always seem to be a casualty to articulation on doll bodies. I recycled the ball joint from Doctor Octopus, cut my Reeves head in half and Dremeled out a place for the ball and glued it around the ball and you have what’s pictured below. The draw back to this is to have any articulation for the head the top of the neck must taper inward towards the ball. This gives a wussy kind of look to the neck from some angels and does effect the likeness a little. Also with this attempt I think the neck is a tad bit to long.

Well it's fascinating to hear your process of exploration Steven. Also great that you are focused on such innovations. For my two cents, I think you are on the right track with the idea in terms of smoothness and how the neck blends with the body- that is much more appealing. However, I found the added length you mentioned to be immediately noticeable and somewhat un-natural upon first viewing so that would be the area to focus on fine-tuning in my opinion.

Well said Kev.
I like where you are going here Steven. Keep on man. You are close. And when you perfect this, please explain it further.
Good work buddy! Looking more like what it needs to be.

Ya a little too long and a tad thick I might add.
Will this new articulation allow for head tilting for flying poses?
