Bet that Thread title gets people curious. ;D
Mart was asking how i deal with Rubber Capes etc that get sticky after you paint them and won't dry out.The first time this happened to me i was perplexed at how to fix it but i finally came up with a preparation that i use every time i use a piece of Rubber now.
-Firstly,i remove any of the original Paint on the piece.I personally use a product called E-L-O[easy lift off]from Polly S,who also make great Airbrush Thinners and Cleaners btw. This stuff is agressive at removing Paint so it's great for large areas like a Cape.Basically all you do is brush it on let it sit and then wipe it off. It's a very messy job so plan where you do it.
-Next i give the piece an extremely thorough washing with plain old Dishwashing Soap and Warm Water.Just scrubbbing it with a normal Sponge is fine.I usually do this a second time after it's fully dried to make sure there are no residual bits of the Paint Remover on there.
-Do any additional add-ons to the piece with Epoxy or whatever.
-Give the piece a thorough and even Undercoat with Primer, whatever your preferred type.I always use a Spray Undercoat for a more even finish, then sand any bumps etc that show up.Re-apply if necessary. Then Paint.
-Finally,i always seal my piece with Dullcote or occasionally a Gloss Clearcoat, use your discretion whether you feel the piece will require a second coat or not.
And that's it,nothing too spectacular but since i've used this method i've never had any more sticky pieces, hope it helps.
