Smoke is still bad. Burning is still going on. Due to south winds, the fire is blowing to the north, towards us, and this smoke is killing me! I went out to see Spidey 3 last night (Comments on that in another thread) and had to stand outside for an hour and a half, in this smoke!!!!! And got home at 3am very messed up. SHould have known better, but didn't think they'd make us wait outside an empty lobby.
ANyway, it's still going on. Pray for rain! We need it very badly!

Hey buddy! Thanks. Yes and no. The main body of the fire has moved south towards the Florida line (30 miles south of us) and has crossed the St. Mary's river into Florida. Much of the Okefenokee Swamp, our largest tourist attraction, has burned. Over 100,131 acres burned already and now, fires starting from lightning strikes have started other local fires. They give them names based on where they start, and they sort of merge. I think there's about five fires now, some distanced from us somewhat, but all because of NO RAIN for over a month. My grass looks like tan straw. Nasty. Had to water my shrubs because they all had hanging leaves and brown branches in places. It's still bad. But, thannks to this big offshore storm thing, all teh winds are from the north to south (bad for FLorida) but good for us in that we get clean air and no smoke. All that can change on a dime though. I just hope it burns out soon. Looks like rain today, so let's hope. But, with rain comes lightning, so the potential for more fires looms. Still no scenes of burned out forest yet. I can't imagine it. Once they open the roads so we can drive near it all, I will get photos and post them. Imagine over 800 firefighters in the area! 800! Amazes me! I'll keep you posted. Til then, here's our local paper online: www.wjhnews.com/(Ma is better, Helped by cleaner air and time. )
