More in the onslaught of getting things done to sell. These are the Diver heads, HEAVILY modified, filled, painted.

I read some references to the "Diver heads" in the eBay section. For those of us unfamiliar with the larger-scale world, what's the story?
Nice paint jobs, Scooter.
I'm starting to realize that re-casting is a problem us smaller-scale guys have never had to worry about.

Diver 4 is a guy (Dale Van slyke) who sells a ton of recast 1:6 (and some smaller) heads via ebay, all of which are recasts most of which are un-authorized recasts. He also sells a bunch of costume parts and rubber accessories that he has created himself.
I've spoken up here many times against recasting for sale, and I don't support or buy his unauthorized heads, but Dale himself is a good guy and his other parts and costume bits are well made and affordable. I use many of his parts on my larger dolls.
These heads were originally commissioned by collector Pete Tassler for a private set of tv bat-dolls that I believe were finished out by Aris Zaroya. Either the sculptor or Zaroya made these heads available to the guys who do recast heads. I don't know who "owns" the originals but they are recast by several producers.
Diver's copies of these heads are extremely pinholed, and these had to be filled out and sanded down quite a bit before priming for paint. Making me assume he did not have access to the originals. His other many heads are better quality castings.
I've had this set of heads for a few years for a collector who wanted his own set of villain dolls, and then pulled out of the deal.

Very cool Scooter. I know of this Diver. I bought a couple of heads from him in the past. I never knew they were unautherized recasts before the purchases though. But I think I got my Batgirl head from the same dude, shrunk'in in size & from a mego dealer. The same dealer has the Ceaser Head, I wish the Penguin head was out there in mego scale. I have scene the head unpainted, & now painted, & I think it's one of the best liknesses out there.

Yeah Dave Mc has some sort of deal with Dale where he is "shrinking" these recasts for sale as 8" heads...

Those do look better than the unpainted versions I have seen. I bought a few heads from Dale but I used them only for a couple of figures I wanted. I had no problems with Dale himself other than the basic frustrations of the recasting blight. It's been a while though.
BTW, the hair on that Joker looks real cool, like it has a sheen to it. Nice paintups. Love the monicle on Penguin.

Well, they're no Les Walker paintjobs, that's for sure! They're not really even usual standard Scooter paintups, as I didn't really put my best efforts or time into these. But thanks.
The limitations of the castings make it so I'd have to completely rework the heads to be anywhere near satisfied with the end results and since I don't have a buyer for the dolls - I thought I'd just paint them up quickly for sale. I do not collect villain stuff much and these heads are slightly too large for the scale and a bit silly looking for me to spend real effort on.
I do all hair the same way - real hair has metallic aspects to it - that's what makes it shine. I always start painted hair with my own blends of metallic pigments. Usually by the time I overpaint it with washes - you just get a hint of the shimmer. On the Joker - it is showing a bit too much from the bad lighting.
I still have a much better Cesar Romero sculpt from the models I used to sell. I am thinking about isolating the head and casting it for sale soon if I can get the sculptor's permission. You guys will be the first to know. There is a picture of it on my site built up if you want to scope it. It is a more true 1:6 scale as well.

[glow=red,2,300]Dude! Those paints are wonderful! [/glow]Don't go on with the Les paint thing now. (You guys!) You are superb. Plus, I am glad to see someone has new techniques that I have not tried too. The hair trick is great and I get it that the flash makes it sheen a bit more. No biggie that. It would be nice to see more direct castings would it not. Must be years old by now. I may want a set if they are for 12"s. Thanks Scot. Keep us posted.

Excellent paint jobs Scot. The details in and around the mouths & eyes look fantastic!
Of the 3 sculpts, I think the Joker has the greatest likeness to the character.
Feel free to post in the trade section once they are up for sale.

Pretty cool- I can see the metallic effect once you mentioned it but would never have caught it if you hadn't said something. Very clever Scot! Hey- is that a real monovle Penguin has? Hard to tell if it's clear or not , the flash on the picture left a glare.

Oooohhh. Thanks for the hair painting-tip. Not that my stuf would ever require that, but it's good to know.
And thanks for the story on the re0caster.
